Bees on the rooftop
It’s that time of the year again: all of the artist group finger’s ten bee colonies on the roof of the Museum für Moderne Kunst survived the winter.
With a wide range of events, guided tours of the apiary and workshops for children, the artist group also re-launches its activities revolving around its production site on the museum roof.
Guided tour for adults
Adults can enjoy a guides tour of the apiary in the style of a nature trail once a month in one hour long tour. The tour focuses to equal degrees on actual apicultural practices and the manner in which strategies for keeping animals, shaping society and making art overlap. Other projects carried out by the City-Centre Apiary / finger are also introduced, for example the group’s cooperation with the HOBOS project (Honey Bees Online Studes), the "beebox", the "Gemischte Bienengruppe" and "Honig von der Pumpstation".

MMK Bee Workshops for children (only in German)
Within a framework of workshops taking place twice a month, children between the ages of 6 and 10 are offered a breakfast at which they can taste a wide range of honeys and learn about the essentials of everyday life for bees in the big city. After a breakfast and a round table discussion lasting about one hour, the group is led to the apiary on the museum’s flat roof to observe the bees and discover the bustle inside the hives. In the process, we take a bit of beeswax from the colonies, which the children then use to make their own crayons. The workshop comes to an end with the creation of a honey jar label.
